Uma Our Nutritionist says,
“Scientifically speaking, the fluid requirement for a person is depending upon his Body Weight and says as follows:
100ml/kg body weight for first 10 kg.
50 ml/kg body weight for next 10 kg.
20ml/kg body weight for each kg above 20 kg.
So one can calculate according to their Body weight.
Yes, its bit time consuming.  If you don’t want that accurate, there is an easy way:
As soon you get up in the morning have 1 glass (approximately 200 ml) of warm water.  Then make sure you have 1.5-2 litres of water in a day.  Then ofcourse when you are exercising or in a hot weather have more water.
There is another practical method of assessing whether you are having enough fluids in your diet is to check the colour of your urine.  It should be clear not dark yellow.  Of course, when you get up in the morning, your urine will be concentrated and thus dark in colour. So its better to check in the middle of the day.

“Drinking water has its own benefits.  It is important to drink plenty of it for your body to function properly and keep you well hydrated.  On rising everyday, ideally 2 to 3 glasses of lukewarm water should be fine (drinking sip by sip)”.

A Good Explanation By Sudha
“I feel one full glass – 200ml of just warm water taken sip by sip in a relaxly sitting position is a good thing to start the day with. I have been practicing this since my 16 years of age. Now my kids too. I feel it removes any kapha in throat and cleanses/ dilutes-in the stomach. Next minute you are there in the toilet unless you have a constipation by heredity”.
